Price is an important factor when determining a contractor, after all, most of us don't have an unlimited budget. However, choosing a cheap contractor may leave you unsatisfied with the outcome of the job, or even cost you more to have a better contractor come in to finish or repair the work that was done by the cheaper one. Here are some things to consider:
A good contractor is going to charge more for their work because being legit cost money. There are a lot of costs that go into operating a legitimate business including Licensing, Bonding, and Business Insurance, just to name a few. It is important to hire contractors that have these three things because they protect you if something goes wrong. Only choose contractors that have these and don’t be afraid to ask for proof that they do. A good contractor will happily verify this for you.
Also, something important to consider when hiring a contractor would be what quality of work am I getting? You should consider things like: How long has this company been in business? What projects have they done in the past and were those customers happy? Often times customers can leave reviews for contractors on pages such as Angie’s List or Google, which are great resources for finding out what projects contractors have done in the past, and whether or not their customers were satisfied with the work.
So then it is more important to consider the value of the contractor you are hiring than the price. While you don’t want to go out and hire the most expensive contractor, it would be wise to find a contractor that is offering a fair price for the quality of work they are providing even if they aren’t the cheapest. You will be much more satisfied with the outcome of your project if you do.
